hobart2010 - some information PDF Print E-mail

Here at the Command Centre, we have a pretty good idea of what's going on with hobart2010. Maybe we're psychic, maybe we've been to many Conventions before; but most probably it's because we're the ones doing the organising. All of you out there on the ice might be a bit lost though, particularly those who are yet to lose their Convention V-plates. So in the spirit of giving, we've put together a bit of a basic outline of the week, which should assuage your nerves and also help with booking flights.

Room Allocations

Room allocations will be done via your local AMSA Representative in the coming weeks. Have no fear delegates, plenty of information and notice will be given about this most sacred of Convention rites. We hear there's a bonus spa on the 8th floor...

Timing

Convention starts on Sunday 4 July and finishes on Sunday 11 July. We're hoping that this isn't news to you, but it's always good to start with the basics. Registration will open at Wrest Point from 11am on Sunday 4 July, so feel free to come and say g'day to us anytime after then. The official Welcome on Sunday starts at 4pm, and the first buses to Social on Sunday will start at 6.30pm. The Academic program starts on Monday morning and finishes on Friday afternoon, with the Ball on Saturday night. There is no official Convention program on Sunday 11 July, so you're free to head home after checking out from Wrest Point by 10am. You are accommodated at Wrest Point for all seven nights of Convention, ie from the 4 to the 11. More details about Registration and check-in to Wrest Point will follow in the weeks to come.

The Week

The structure of the Convention week can also be somewhat confusing to the uninitiated. There is a small welcome session on the first Sunday, as mentioned above. The Academic program runs on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday is the domain of the Emergency Medical Challenge in the morning, and Sports Day in the afternoon. Saturday is free to do as you please, though most people take the time to explore the host city. Social runs for all seven nights of the week, with standard parties on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; a Pub Crawl on Wednesday and a Ball on Saturday. More details will follow in the weeks to come.
